デボラ・アン・ディスノー(Deborah Ann DeSnoo) 演出・脚本・映像監督・撮影

数々の受賞歴を持つプロデューサー・映画監督・舞台演出家・脚本家・女優であり、日本語に堪能な人材。東京、LAに拠点を置き、インターナショナルに活動。映画、ビデオ、イベントなどエンタテインメント全般を手がける株式会社PLUG-INの代表取締役も務める。 

日本国内でも舞台演出家として多数の受賞歴を持つベテラン演出家であり、その業績を認められ日本語で演出できる初めてのプロフェッショナル外国人演出家として、日本演出者協会に推薦されメンバーとなる。20年以上ロサンジェルスと東京の両方に拠点を持ち、精力的に活動している。監督、脚本家として高い評価を獲得している作品は、記憶に焼きつく映像と、奥行きのあるストーリーの構築で「歴史上の出来事を体温のある物語にする」との定評がある。

 2022年ベルリンのサムライアートミュージアムの能舞台に、日本の観世能楽堂で撮った能役者の映像をリアルに投影することに成功している。

Deborah DeSnoo, a multi-media performance artist and award winning American film and theater director/ producer, writer and narrator, is now based in Tokyo, Japan. For 16 years she commuted on a tri-weekly basis between her LA office and her Tokyo office while working on a number of international endeavors with Russia, the Netherlands, Korea, France, and Canada.

She began her career as an actor/director in NYC. Her first trip to Japan was during her Senior year at NYU in order to spend 3 months studying Classical Japanese Dance. She returned in

1984 to study Noh with Kanze Hideo and soon began producing and directing theater and film in both Japan and the US. Fluent in Japanese, she holds the distinction of being the first foreign director invited to join Japan Directors’ Association. She also belongs to the DGA (Directors Guild of America) and the WGA (Writers Guild of America) and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

In 1992 she was honored with a fellowship from the AFI’s prestigious Directing Workshop for Women, producing a short dramatic film, CORPORATE WARRIOR about a foreign woman married to a Japanese businessman who dies of overwork, based on her real life experience. This film has been shown worldwide and was featured on NHK News 7.

In 2004, she produced, directed and wrote a three-part film series entitled “JAPAN: Memoirs of a Secret Empire” – a 3 part film series for PBS about the Edo Era and the Samurai life. It was nominated for IDA Limited Series Award.,

In 2005, Part 3 of the series was shown in conjunction with the Japan After Perry Exhibit at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles I and Part 2 of this series were shown in conjunction with the special exhibition “Art of the Samurai: Japanese Arms and Armor, 1156–1868 at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

Footage from this series is also being exhibited at the Samurai Art Museum in Berlin.
